General Information About Adjara

one of the most beautiful and oldest historical regions of the south-western part of the Black Sea coast. Most of the territory of Adjara consists of mountains and deep valleys. There are Kobuleti and Kakhaberi plain-lowland in the coastal area. Between Meskhetian, Shavsheti and Arsiani ranges is located Adjara Cave. In the coastal plains there is a humid subtropical climate, with cold winters and hot summers. In mountinaus places there is a humid climate, with mild winters and warm summers. Adjara is distinguished with favorable and warm climate. In the natural environment we can see a variety of animals, centuries-old archaeological, historical and architectural monuments. In Adjara there is located Batumi - which is called a pearl of the Black Sea, which in the early 20th century by European architects was built and it is still a symbol of the architectural innovation. Infrastructure of sea resorts, tropical climate, air combination of sea and mountai creates a unique combination of excellent conditions for recreation in the holidays. Diverse choice of beaches: those who want to share an active life in the city with the rest of the sea, Batumi is an ideal place. There are plenty of summer concerts, entertainment and cultural events. You can visit Tsikhisdziri, The Green Cape, Chakvi and other coastal places if you search for peace and quiet. There is a cozy recreational infrastructure by Sarpi, Kvariati and Gonio. Kobuleti beaches are distinguished with special treatment characteristics.


Adjara has a subtropical climate. There are mild winters and hot summers in Adjara. Black Sea coast has more humidity than mountainous areas. Mountainous regions are distinguished by considerable snowfall sometimes reaching several meters. That is why the summer temperature is lower 22-24C in the lowlands and 17-21C in the highlands. But, in winter there is 4-6 C in Batumi, when the mountainous areas temperature reaches 3-2C.

Food in Adjara

Adjara is distinguished with its traditional cooking and the variety of cooking technologies, table setting traditions and rituals. For centuries the main ratio has been filled with fruit, viticulture and beekeeping products, fish. In total there are 150 types of dish. Adjarian cuisine is rich with diary products. Adjarian most popular dishes are: borano (melted cheese in butter), chirbuli (breakfast prepared with eggs and nuts) and sinori (dish with curd and dried plates of unleavened dough). Adjarian cuisine is inconceivable without Adjarian khachapuri, which besides other characteristics is distinguished primarily with its original form. "Khachapuri" with its form symbolizes the boat, while the egg - the sun. Adjarian sweets - baklava and shakarlama play a big role in Adjarian cuisine. Since ancient times viticulture was well developed, and the number of the local wine varieties reached 80. In the region there were formed more than 40 indigenous vine species and varieties with various colors and with a maturity and they still exist in this territory. There is produced such unique species, as "Keda'sTsolikauri" and "Chkhaveri". Today there are totally 180 hectares of vineyards in Adjara. Among the 70% of the vineyard there is Tsolikauri, Chkhaveri 8% and the rest 22% is represented by a variety of local species and vine species.
